Today is poetry day in Ireland, and if you've followed my journey since three years ago you'll know I picked up poetry as part of my coping through writing. It's been one of the more therapeutic things I've done releasing my emotions through poetry, I've found so much healing through it.
It's not often I share my poetry because truth be told often they are quite deep, I'm no expert and I don't want people to pitty me for the pain I've endured since losing Sophia. But here is one I wrote back in October 2022 that I said I'd post since its poetry day in Ireland.
This poem is a reminder to take a moment to just be present and to appreciate the simplest thing..
Just breathing, being alive.
Sophia didn't even get to do that, that one simple thing. Through her death I've realised the beauty of life, of simply being.
If I die tomorrow,
Remember me with love.
It's the one thing I want to share
Even when I go above.
I've learned life's biggest lesson.
One that made me new.
One that taught me to love after loss,
To live your life for you.
We get caught up in living.
Money, travel, expensive things.
Everyone is trying to do better than each other when really these things mean nothing.
You see life is not about that, life is much deeper or so it seems.
Life is about laughter and living out your dreams.
We forget that life is short,
That it can change in a blink of an eye.
How death is a part of life,
But none of us want to say goodbye.
But that's the magic you see,
How your life can be.
Breathing air, feeling the ground,
Every wave and beat through sound.
How lucky we are to be alive,
To experience earth and watch life thrive.
Each day I remind myself what she couldn't have.
The chance to breathe, to smile, to laugh.
I realised the moment I lost her how much I took for granted.
How I wasted time on those who didn't care, but now the seed has planted.
My life will not be wasted.
My life will not be for granted.
My life will be filled with a love that is forever lasted.
